Enhanced mechanical and dynamic mechanical properties of polymer nanocomposites containing carbon nanotubes decorated with barium titanate

This study presents functionalized carbon nanotubes (CNTs) decorated with barium titanate (BT) (denoted as BT@CNTs) via hydrothermal and self-assembly methods to improve dispersion in polypropylene (PP) matrix enhanced thermal, mechanical, thermomechanical properties. The CNTs, BT, BT@CNTs the addition of maleic anhydride (PPMA) compatibilizer were used fabrication PP based nanocomposites for this solution mixing melt compounding. FTIR, TEM, SEM analyses, respectively revealed that nanoparticles successfully functionalized, CNTs well matrix. PP/BT@CNTs-based nanocomposite showed optimal tensile strength, modulus, heat deflection, thermal stability about 16.8%, 26.5%, 20.1%, 30 o C higher than obtained pure PP. These properties also 10.6%, 17.6%, 19.0%, 5.0 PP/3CNTs when compared PP/3BT@CNTs. PP/BT@CNTs dynamic mechanical better performance measured PP/CNTs attributed their uniform microstructures, effective interlocking due presence BT on surfaces.
